1500 SERIES POCKET DOOR INSTALLATION

SUBMITTED BY: Don Bindner
Single Pocket Door Installation, Residential Application

Here is an application of a pocket door that I thought turned out very nicely. The original configuration was a small half-bath, with a door that swings in. Unfortunately, your body gets in the way when you go into the small space and try to close the door. The natural configuration is to have the door open outward, but that is not so great for my situation. My wife has a disability and uses a walker or wheelchair. She asked for a pocket door because if the door were to open out, the walker or wheelchair would be in the way. I was able to reuse the existing door, which is a quality solid wood door. Since I expected the door to get a lot of use, I wanted to hang it from hardware that would stand up. I selected the Johnson 1500 pocket door frame with heavy duty hangers.  I did all of the work myself with the help of an experienced friend. It was my first project of the type, but as you can see, it turned out just swell. I would choose Johnson hardware if I had to do it again. My wife loves her pocket door. It has also garnered compliments from two assessors.
